phantom limb is currently accepting poetry submissions as well as queries for book reviews. we read year-round and publish quarterly.




2014 - 2015 Breitling Open Chapbook Prize


Named after Nathan Breitling (1986 - 2014), a native Chicagoan, dear friend and colleague to the masthead of Phantom Limb Press, this series awards publication to one author for a chapbook-length collection of poems.

Deadline: January 10, 2015

Prize: Publication (in print) by Phantom Limb Press

Fee: $15

Work must be previously unpublished as whole (individual poem publication is fine). Simultaneous submissions are OK as long as you inform us immediately if the chapbook has been accepted for publication elsewhere.

Manuscripts can be anywhere from 16 - 25 pages in length. One poem per page.

Collaborations are welcome.

One submission per person, please.

Please include: a title sheet with name, phone number, email, title of the manuscript and mailing address.

We will only be accepting submissions electronically, through Submittable.

EMERGING POETS ISSUE: Phantom Limb Special Edition

We are currently reading for our first-ever EMERGING POETS ISSUE. Set to release in March / April 2015, this issue will feature work exclusively from poets who have never published a full-length collection of poems (this includes self-published collections).

Please mark your submission: EMERGING POETS ISSUE / YOUR NAME to be considered.

We will be reading submissions for this issue on a rolling basis until February. Good luck!


guidelines for poetry submissions:

[1] please send 3-5 poems in a single Word .doc attachment ONLY.

[2] please include a cover letter and brief bio.

[3] please write “LAST NAME / POETRY SUBMISSION / DATE” in the subject line.
      so, for example: “SMITH / POETRY SUBMISSION / SEPT. 4, 1987”


we do not accept previously published work.

simultaneous submissions are just fine.

if your poems get picked up elsewhere, please send us a notice of withdrawal.

note: if you have been previously published in phantom limb, please wait two full issues before submitting again.
